Nonito Donaire Falls and Fails to Defend his WBO Crown against Guillermo Rigondeaux

Donaire and Rigondeaux in a Promotional Poster
In title unification match, Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire suffered his 2nd boxing career defeat. That is because he lost in a somewhat controversial fight against an inexperienced professional boxer, Guillermo Rigondeaux. His rival is Cuban by nationality but defected to become a US fighter. He is a 2 time Olympic gold medalist who had a very long amateur career.

In the meantime, the result of the judges decision must've really been somewhat controversial. With Donaire winning by points by knocking down Rigondeaux once, the scorecards otherwise revealed something odd. Instead of a clear supposedly 10-8 score for knocking down the Cuban opponent, Donaire lost by big margins in all 3 judges therefore making him suffer his 2nd loss in a unanimous decision.

In Metro Manila, restaurants have chosen to broadcast the fight while you can buy tickets to the controversial boxing match only at Gateway Cineplex in Cubao, Quezon City.
